JOB ROLE: Radio Presenter / Show Host (Voluntary 14+)

Radio Shields is a community radio station serving North and South Tyneside, broadcasting live from our state-of-the-art studios in South Shields town centre.

We pride ourselves as the ‘voice’ of the community and are proud to serve our areas South Shields, Tynemouth and beyond, broadcasting live from our state-of-the-art studios in South Shields town centre.

The station broadcasts full-time, showcasing details of local events, news, and activities within our local area, mixing it up with the latest music from the charts, as well as music from the past 60 years.

About the role

WHAT DO WE WANT?

Radio Shields are looking for local/UK presenters, producers and DJ’s to get involved with our radio station, what we have on offer is a platform with the potential listeners of 3000 on a monthly basis.

WHAT MUSIC CAN I PLAY?

While your show should be a reflection of your personality and music tastes, we want to ensure that Radio Shields has an overall station sound, and that our listeners and your listeners can transfer from one show to another. We usually do this with on the hour News, Ad’s etc.

Genres that fit:

  • Generic Pop, Dance classics.
  • Commercial remixes of chart music by UK and International producers.
  • Old School classics
  • Funky House
  • Retro
  • Vocal House
  • Vocal Trance (90’s and 00’s)
  • Club land, Hardcore, Makin

TECHNICALITIES 

We ask that:

  • Your show is a minimum of 2 hours long (120 minutes) and is broadcast weekly at an agreed time.
  • You maintain level control throughout, watching your meters to avoid distortion or large volume changes.
  • Using Microphone, refrain from swearing, making religious, political or racist comments.

WHAT DO I GET IN RETURN?

Radio Shields will support you in giving you a platform to perform.

While we hope that your show will fit into our weekly schedule, we hope that it will attract potential advertisers and sponsorship; your motivation should be for the community, music, and your listeners.

LOCAL NEWS PRESENTER & REPORTERS

Are you interested in a career in journalism?

Radio Shields, North Shields and South Shields exciting community based radio station are looking for a web content creator to join our fast-growing, dynamic team.

You will be given the opportunity to interview members of the local community, councillor’s artists, DJs and producers, and to express your own creativity writing about the local area in stories, music, beauty, fashion and technology.

This is a voluntary position and ideal for someone with experience in community radio looking to take the next step towards the commercial sector.

We will support you on your journey by providing the tools and platform to succeed!

As we carry out all communication online, you can be based anywhere in North Tyneside or South Tyneside and we welcome applications of all ages and backgrounds.

Essential Knowledge & Skills

  • Keep updated with trends in the radio industry as well as technological developments

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
    Knowledge of the Radio market, different station and programme styles, and audience demographics
  • Having an understanding

  • Sound editorial, business and finance skills

  • Ability to generate original ideas, and to think creatively about how to communicate them

  • Able to work within and apply all relevant community projects policies, procedures  and schemes of work
  • Monitoring and evaluating the quality of the station and meeting all requirements and regulations with regards to programming and legislation.

The following criteria must be judged as satisfactory when pre-employment and volunteering checks are completed:

1 Enhanced Certificate of Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service

2 Additional criminal record checks if applicant has lived outside the UK within the 5 years prior to appointment

3 Barred list check (DBS)

4 Two references from current and previous employers (or education establishment if applicant not in employment)

    Advertising & Sales Manager (Commission Based – Over 18’s)

    We are looking for a competitive Sales Assistant to help customers identify and purchase our different advertising packages and show sponsorships they desire. Sales Assistant duties include selling, restocking and merchandising. The goal is to provide high class customer service and to increase company’s growth and revenue through sales maximisation.

    Responsibilities

    • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent sales service
    • Maintain outstanding communication both in person, on the telephone and through email.
    • Maintain a fully stocked store
    • Manage point-of-sale processes
    • Actively involve in the receiving of new shipments
    • Keep up to date with product information and packages available to sell.
    • Accurately describe product features and benefits advertising on Radio Shields.

    Essential Skills & Knowledge

    Common work activities include:

    • Keep updated with trends in the radio industry as well as technological developments
    • Having an ability to see the overall BIG picture
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills
      Knowledge of the Radio market, different station and programme styles, and audience demographics
    • Having an understanding
    • Have a basic understanding of sales principles and customer service practices.
    • Have a friendly, helpful, confident and engaging personality.
    • Able to work within and apply all relevant community projects policies, procedures  and schemes of work
