Free weekend parking brings Christmas cheer for shoppers

Christmas shoppers and businesses are once again set to benefit from free weekend parking in North Tyneside’s town centres this December.

All on-street car parking will be free at weekends in North Shields, Wallsend and Whitley Bay town centres as well as Front Street, Tynemouth.

It’s in addition to the hundreds of free spaces already available in some North Tyneside Council-managed town centre car parks and Priors Haven car park, Tynemouth.

The initiative aims to support local traders and North Tyneside’s economy by encouraging people to visit the Borough’s town centres and busy village centre for their Christmas shopping.

North Tyneside’s Deputy Mayor, Councillor Carl Johnson, said: “There will be plenty to enjoy in North Tyneside this Christmas period thanks to our lights displays and a big programme of events.

“Providing more free parking in the Borough’s town centres means there’s another reason to shop locally and support businesses right on our doorstep.”

On-street parking is already free on Sundays in North Shields, Wallsend and Whitley Bay town centres, with the Council extending this to Saturdays throughout December. In addition, free on-street parking on Front Street, Tynemouth, will be in place on Saturdays and Sundays.
